Artist, Teacher and Ecologist

I took my Foundation at Watford College in 1990 and then studied for a Fine Art degree at Norwich School of Art, where I specialised in printmaking, graduating in 1994. In 1995 I passed my PGCE and then worked in a broad cross-section  of educational establishments across England and Wales.

After a sabbatical in Rome and Barcelona, I continued to develop my printwork at Ipswich College of Art and gained a reputation across East Anglia and the UK for innovative abstract prints and photographs, inspired by music and poetry. During this time, I received a letter from Sister Wendy Beckett after she saw my sketchbooks and abstract drawings: her kind words inspired me to set up a studio in Monmouth in 2005, drawn by the rivers and wooded landscape and its contrast to the big skies of Suffolk.

The Wye Valley and Severn Estuary landscape gradually lured me away from creating abstract prints and paintings in the studio and I started working in the tradition of the landscape painter, inspired by the work of Turner and the French Impressionists. As my technique developed so did my need for quality materials- I now use Old Holland oil  paints on board or canvas.

I attempt to capture the ephemeral qualities of light and the atmosphere it creates; evoking memories of moments spent in landscapes or in more intimate spaces. Whether I am portraying wooded glades, river scenes, raging seas or summer skies I aim to celebrate the importance of Nature and its spiritual effect on us.

I am now based in Worcester. As well as painting and drawing, I organise and curate exhibitions in collaboration with schools, communities and universities. I deliver printmaking and painting workshops locally and nationwide and I also teach art in SEN and Secondary schools.
